Whilst Thuthukani Special School receives a grant from the Department of Education, we aim to fundraise more than One Million Rand per year to continue to educate and support the intellectually disabled community of Zululand. Without the on-going support, donations and assistance from the "Friends of Thuthukani" our school would have run out of funding on several occasions in the past.

Thuthukani is thankful for every donation that comes our way, and we continue to operate on the community of Zululand's love, prayers and donations.

Our special thanks go to those individuals who participate in our "Sponsor a Child" campaign. By paying school fees on behalf of some of the many who cannot afford to, you are assisting us to keep up the excellent program we run here at Thuthukani.

Thuthukani receives funding from the following groups:
  • Rotary Empangeni – Since 2007 Rotary Empangeni have funded the Skills Development program at Thuthukani. The Rotarians are always a call away if we need advice or assistance with any of the many challenges we face at Thuthukani.
  • Richards Bay Minerals – by making an annual donation to Thuthukani, RBM has allowed us to take the learners with intellectual disability on outings to various places in the community where they can learn in a new environment.
  • Richards Bay Coal Terminal – Their annual donation has assisted Thuthukani to keep the Primary Healthcare Clinic for the learners operational and to standard.
  • Mondi Business Paper –Mondi's regular donation of paper enables the educators to create worksheets and tasks for the learners.
  • Hospital Farm Trust – This group have come to the school's rescue a number of times with lump sum donations when we were at the point of running out of funds.
  • National Lottery – With the help of NLDTF, we were able to temporarily employ some of the volunteers who offer their services to our school from July 2010 to February 2013. The Occupational Therapy Section was also expanded through a donation from NLDTF.
  • Thuthukani's Feeding Scheme receives funding from the Department of Education's feeding scheme, but this allows about R1.75 per child per day. We receive regular donations from Umfolozi Casino & Resort, Riverview Farms, Power Spar, Boxer Superstore and Empangeni Milling to add to this. Air Products supply the gas we need to cook the food.
  • We receive lump sum donations from many friends and organisations that assist us to keep the doors open and children in school. To list a few: The Noto, Hoggard and Butt families, UThungulu Community Foundation,Bell Equipment, Felixton Planters, SANTAM CSI, Zululand Anthracite Colliery, The Furby Family, Nedbank Limited, Kloppers Icorporated, Guzulu Guzulu, St Francis of Assissi, the Fuchs Foundation, East Coast Maritime, Dischem Foundation and many more.
  • MoreCare Engineering donated and installed 70 fans in the classrooms.
  • The Wessels Foundation assists us to support our volunteers with transport money and stipends.
  • Zululand Wireless Network sponsors our ADSL at Thuthukani, making all of our electronic communication possible.
  • Justin Whittaker has come to our rescue for IT support and the website upgrade that you are looking at now.

Over and above these donations, Thuthukani receives many other donations from our various friends, and despite not being able to list everyone here, we are grateful to each individual, company or group who makes a donation to our school, be it in terms of funds, expertise, advice, food, prayer, new, used or other items or a discount granted for items purchased.

Thank you very much from everyone at Thuthukani Special School.
